When data needs to be transferred or connected

Do you have a supplier's catalogue in a file, copy prices manually or need to send orders to another system? We first establish which data should be transferred, in which direction and how existing records will be identified. This makes an import more than simply uploading a file.

What does the service include?

Product data

Products, categories, descriptions, images, features and variants — after agreeing on data availability and how it should be mapped in the store.

Prices and availability

Updates to selected fields, such as prices or stock levels, with an agreed frequency and processing rules.

Exports from the store

Preparing product, customer or order data in the format required by the recipient, limited to the necessary scope.

API data exchange

Connecting to an external system's interface, taking authentication, limits and error handling into account.

What needs to be agreed separately?

Not every file contains all the data PrestaShop needs. Manually correcting descriptions, adding missing images, translations and API provider fees require a separate agreement. Two-way data exchange is a different scope from a simple import; it requires deciding which system takes priority when data conflicts arise.

How does the work proceed?

  1. Analyse a sample

    We review a sample file or API documentation, the data structure and its quality.

  2. Define mapping rules

    We agree on which fields are imported, how products are identified and what the import should not overwrite.

  3. Run a small-scale trial

    We test representative records, including variants, missing values and reprocessing the same data.

  4. Launch and check

    We compare the result with the agreed scope. For recurring operations, we agree on a schedule and how errors will be monitored.

What should you prepare for our discussion?

  • A sample file or API documentation — without passwords or access keys.
  • A list of data to add, update or export.
  • The approximate number of records and the required exchange frequency.
  • Examples of variants, product identifiers and unusual cases.

Do not send passwords or customer data at the initial stage. We will agree separately on how to provide any necessary access.

What does the quote depend on?

The cost depends on the data structure and quality, the number of sources, transformation rules, catalogue size and whether the operation is one-off or recurring. API limits and the required error reporting also matter. A data sample makes it much easier to define the scope of the quote accurately.

How do we verify the completed work?

We tailor acceptance criteria to the agreed scope. For this service, the main checks are:

  • The number of processed and rejected records can be compared with the source.
  • Sample products have the correct prices, variants and assignments.
  • Running the process again follows the agreed update rules and does not create unwanted duplicates.

Support after completion, subsequent changes and updates are covered by the terms agreed in the offer for each project.

Questions before getting started

Can you update only prices and stock levels?

Yes, this scope can be separated from importing descriptions and images. It requires a stable identifier linking the supplier's product to the store's product, plus rules for handling missing records.

Will the import delete products that are missing from the file?

This should not be an accidental consequence of an import. Keeping, disabling or deleting missing products must follow an explicitly agreed rule.

Does a data import mean migrating the entire store?
