PRESTADEV / PRESTASHOP SERVICES
Migration to PrestaShop means transferring data and launching a store on a new platform. At PrestaDev, we plan it around the capabilities of the source system, the quality of the data and the features needed after the move to PrestaShop.
Tell us about your planned migrationWhen you are changing your sales platform
Do you want to move a store from WooCommerce, Magento or another solution? The key is to establish what should be retained: the catalogue, customer accounts, order history, content or page URLs. What can be transferred depends on the data that can be obtained from the old system.
What does the service include?
Catalogue and structure
Products, variants, categories, images and other agreed data, mapped to the PrestaShop structure.
Customers and orders
Assessing whether accounts, purchase history and the relationships between them can be transferred. Not every platform makes this data available in the same way.
URLs and content
Planning the transfer of agreed content and the mapping of important old URLs to the appropriate pages in the new store.
Trial and launch
A test migration, data checks and a planned switchover, including handling data created while preparations are under way.
What needs to be agreed separately?
The old platform's theme and plugins do not automatically become a PrestaShop theme and modules. Recreating the design, custom features and integrations requires a separate scope. It is not possible to promise in advance that all customer passwords can be transferred or that search rankings will be retained.
How does the work proceed?
List the data and features
We establish what to transfer, what to recreate and what can be left out. We check access to exports or the source database.
Run a trial transfer
We verify a representative set of data in the new store, including variants and relationships between records.
Check purchases and URLs
We check the agreed data, basic purchases and the redirect map from the old store.
Switch over the store
We agree on when changes in the old system will stop, how current data will be brought across and the checks to run after launch.
What should you prepare for our discussion?
- The address and name of the store's current platform.
- The approximate number of products, customers, orders and languages.
- A sample export and information about database or API access.
- A list of features and integrations that need to be available in the new store.
Do not send passwords or customer data at the initial stage. We will agree separately on how to provide any necessary access.
What does the quote depend on?
Pricing depends on the source platform, the scope and quality of the data, the number of relationships and the features to be recreated. Preparing the new store, licences and any design work should be accounted for separately. A sample export and a list of essential features help separate these costs.
How do we verify the completed work?
We tailor acceptance criteria to the agreed scope. For this service, the main checks are:
- Record counts and selected relationships match the agreed migration scope.
- Sample products, accounts and orders contain the correct data, and a purchase can be completed in the new store.
- Important old URLs use the agreed redirects to reach the correct destinations.
Support after completion, subsequent changes and updates are covered by the terms agreed in the offer for each project.
Questions before getting started
Will customers keep their passwords?
This depends on how passwords are stored and the capabilities of the source system. If compatibility cannot be ensured, a secure process for setting new passwords needs to be planned. Passwords should not be sent or recovered in plain text.
Can the old store stay open during preparations?
Preparations can usually be carried out separately from the live store. However, it is necessary to agree on how later orders and changes will be transferred, and when to stop writes before the final switchover.
Will migration preserve my visibility in Google?
Redirects, content and URLs should be included in the plan, but migration alone does not guarantee that rankings will be retained. Checking important URLs and monitoring the new store after launch are important.
