PRESTADEV / PRESTASHOP SERVICES

A PrestaShop upgrade means moving an existing store to a newer version of the platform. At PrestaDev, we agree on the scope after reviewing the store, because the theme, modules and custom modifications may require separate adjustments.

When your store needs a newer version

Do you want to use new features, change the PHP version on your hosting or install a module that requires a newer PrestaShop version? The store's version number alone is not enough to plan an upgrade. What has been installed and modified also matters.

What does the service include?

Assess the current configuration

Check the PrestaShop and PHP versions, theme, key modules and known modifications.

Plan the upgrade

Choose the target version and upgrade approach, with a list of elements that need replacement, licences or additional work.

Work on a store copy

Prepare the upgrade in a test environment and check the agreed set of features.

Deploy the agreed version

Plan the launch of the changes, post-deployment checks and what to do if a problem occurs.

What needs to be agreed separately?

Retaining the old design and every existing feature is not automatically included in every upgrade. A theme or module may not have a version compatible with the upgraded store. We agree separately on the cost of licences, recreating custom changes and redesigning the store when needed.

How does the work proceed?

  1. Take stock of the store

We establish the store's current condition and the list of features that must work after the change.

  2. Create a copy and trial the upgrade

We prepare a test version and check which adjustments are actually necessary.

  3. Test with the owner

We verify purchases and the specified store-management processes. This is the stage for assessing the appearance and back-office workflows.

  4. Plan the switchover

We agree on a deployment window, how to protect current data and the checks to run after launch.

What should you prepare for our discussion?

  • The store address and current PrestaShop version.
  • The theme name and a list of the most important modules and integrations.
  • Information about changes made specifically for the store.
  • The desired target version or the reason for upgrading.

Do not send passwords or customer data at the initial stage. We will agree separately on how to provide any necessary access.

What does the quote depend on?

Pricing depends primarily on the gap between versions, theme and module compatibility, the number of custom changes and the scope of testing and deployment. A schedule can be set once these dependencies are understood. We do not assume that every upgrade requires the same amount of work.

How do we verify the completed work?

We tailor acceptance criteria to the agreed scope. For this service, the main checks are:

  • The agreed purchase journey works: product, cart, delivery, payment and order creation.
  • Customers can log into their accounts, and orders can be handled in the back office.
  • Key integrations and the specified store URLs work after the change.

Support after completion, subsequent changes and updates are covered by the terms agreed in the offer for each project.

Questions before getting started

Does the store have to be offline during the upgrade?

Preparation can be carried out on a copy. The deployment itself may require a maintenance period; its extent depends on the upgrade method and the agreed switchover plan.

Can I keep my current theme?

That depends on its compatibility with the target PrestaShop version. Sometimes a theme update is enough; in other cases, adjustments or a new theme are needed. The theme should be assessed before preparing the quote.

How is an upgrade different from a migration?

An upgrade concerns a store already running on PrestaShop. Migration to PrestaShop means transferring data from another platform and launching the store. A very large version jump may also require moving data into a new installation.
