# Internal Linking Pro — automatic internal linking in PrestaShop

**Internal Linking Pro** automatically turns selected phrases into links to chosen PrestaShop store pages. It allows linking from product and category descriptions, CMS pages, and manufacturer and supplier content, as well as from appropriately designated areas of the homepage and module pages. For each rule, you define the phrases, language, target, scope of operation, and the limit of links to be added. Drafts, priorities, and schedules make it easier to prepare rules before publication. The simulator shows the result on the entered content, and diagnostics help verify the availability of native targets in the selected store and language. Links are generated in the page HTML, without permanently modifying the descriptions stored in the database.

## Description

### Automatic linking features

 - **Six target types:** product, category, CMS page, manufacturer, supplier, or a custom internal URL. For catalog and CMS targets, you specify the identifier, and the module builds the address using the PrestaShop link mechanism.
- **Seven source page types:** products, categories, CMS, manufacturers, suppliers, homepage, and module pages. Linking covers selected content areas available in the final page HTML.
- **Product description selection:** a rule can work in the short description, the full description, or both fields.
- **Up to 50 phrases in one rule:** enter phrases on separate lines or separate them with commas. Matching respects word boundaries and Unicode characters; case sensitivity is optional.
- **Rule priorities:** a value from 0 to 1000 determines the processing order. Rules with higher priority run first, and within a single rule, longer phrases take precedence over shorter ones.
- **Precise scope of operation:** you can specify source page identifiers and the categories to which products belong. A product qualifies through the specified ID or membership in one of the selected categories.
- **Page exclusions:** the list of excluded identifiers takes precedence over the source list and product categories.
- **Three levels of limits:** from 1 to 100 links added by the module per page, from 1 to 20 to a single target, and from 1 to 20 for a specific rule. The default global settings are 8 links per page and 1 to a single target.
- **Control of repeated targets:** by default, the module skips a target already linked in the processed content and links to the current page. Both rules can be changed in the settings.
- **Protection of existing content:** phrases inside existing links, forms, scripts, styles, code, and marked hidden elements are skipped. Headings are protected by default, with the option to disable this protection.
- **Link options:** you can set an additional link title, the `nofollow` attribute, and opening in a new tab or window. When this last option is enabled, the link also receives the `noopener` and `noreferrer` values in the `rel` attribute.

 ### Rule management in the PrestaShop panel

 - **Drafts and publication:** you can prepare a new rule without activating it on the front office. A published rule works according to the selected scope, schedule, and limits.
- **Schedule:** an optional start and end date lets you limit the rule's active period. Dates are interpreted according to PHP server time.
- **Duplication:** a copy of the rule keeps its settings and is created as a draft in the same store.
- **Bulk operations:** publishing, disabling, and deleting selected rules. Deletion requires confirmation with a list of rule names.
- **Search and pagination:** you can search the list by names and phrases; rules are displayed 20 per page.
- **Dashboard and five tabs:** Dashboard, Rules, Settings, Simulator, and SEO Diagnostics. The Dashboard shows the numbers of all rules, published rules, and scheduled rules.
- **Separate languages:** each rule has its own language, so you can match phrases and targets to a specific language version of the store. The module does not translate phrases automatically.
- **Multistore support:** settings and rules are assigned to the store. Management takes place in the context of one selected store.

 ### Simulator and SEO diagnostics

**Linking Simulator** processes text or HTML that you paste into the form. You choose the source page type, its identifier, language, and — for a product — the short or full description; for a module page, you provide its internal URL. You can include a specified draft without publishing it in the store. The result includes HTML code with added links, the total number of new links, and the number of links added by individual rules. If there are no new links or a limit is exceeded, you receive a message to help you check the settings.

**SEO Diagnostics** shows the rule target address and status in its language. Catalog and CMS targets are checked based on store data; unavailable targets are skipped during linking. For a manually entered URL, the module checks whether the address meets the internal address rules, but does not send an HTTP request to it. Diagnostics do not replace checking the server response or page indexability.

 ### Import, export, and rule transfer

 - **JSON export:** downloading rules of the selected store in batches from 1 to 200 items. File metadata specifies the batch number, number of batches, and total number of rules.
- **Import as drafts:** the module checks all rules from the file before adding them. Import does not replace existing rules; when transferring between stores, you need to verify language and target identifiers.
- **Migration from `g_internallinking`:** if tables of the older module are detected, you can transfer supported rules as drafts. Migration separates product, category, and CMS scopes, preserves the language, and does not duplicate previously transferred items when repeated. The report indicates items requiring manual correction, and the old tables remain preserved.

 ### Benefits for store staff and customers

 - **Less manual editing of descriptions:** with one rule, you can add links in many matching content areas, without separately saving the link in each description.
- **Control over the linking structure:** phrases, priorities, scopes, and exclusions define which content you connect and where the links lead.
- **Reduced link density:** limits and skipping already present targets help avoid adding many links to the same page.
- **Access to related content:** the customer can go from the description they are reading directly to the indicated product, category, or CMS guide.
- **Changes without permanently rewriting content:** disabling automatic linking stops adding links while preserving the rules and original descriptions.

 ### Examples of internal linking use

**Product description and guide:** you can link the phrase “size selection” to a CMS page explaining how to measure. You can limit the rule to selected products or product categories.

**CMS content and category:** the phrase “trekking shoes” appearing in a guide can be directed to the corresponding store category. You define the entered phrases yourself — the module does not choose them based on search engine popularity.

**Linking during a specific period:** you can set rule activity dates for a link leading to a selected product or category, and after the period ends, keep the rule for later editing.

 ### How to prepare your first rule?

 1. Select the store, add the rule as a draft, and set the content language.
2. Enter the phrases and specify the target type and its ID or internal URL.
3. Define sources, exclusions, the product description field, and limits; if needed, add a schedule.
4. Paste a sample fragment into the Simulator and include the ID of the prepared draft. Check the result for the correct source page and language.
5. Check the target in SEO Diagnostics and the content area used by the theme, then publish the rule.

 ### Scope of operation and important limitations

 - **Literal matching:** the module does not automatically recognize grammatical inflections or synonyms. You add the required variants to the phrase list.
- **Dependence on content areas:** default selectors cover descriptions in Classic and Hummingbird themes and CMS content. For a different structure, you can add simple ID or CSS class selectors. Module pages require a specified content area; this is not automatic integration with every blog module.
- **Full page responses:** linking takes place server-side, without a JavaScript script adding links in the browser. AJAX responses are skipped; the cart, checkout process, customer account, and search engine are not among the supported page types.
- **Processing limits:** automatic linking supports up to 1000 published rules per store and language. HTML size and complexity limits also apply; exceeding the limits may cause linking to be skipped.
- **SEO scope:** the module manages internal links, but does not guarantee indexing or ranking growth. It does not create sitemaps, does not set canonical URLs, and does not change rules for search engine bots.
- **Data removal:** uninstalling removes this module's rules and settings. Before uninstalling, it is worth exporting the required rules; simply disabling linking preserves the data.
